Rebel Souls Stand with Henry

Have you ever seen those old signs "whites only" at the drinking fountain?

Separate but equal, no such thing.

Have you ever considered what our disabled children think, when we bus them off across town, to their separate schools? When we refuse to accommodate to their needs in their own neighborhood? When we hinder their opportunities to build relationships with the children who live next door? When we compartmentalize their lives? When we ignore their voice?

Have you ever seen someone grow wings? Meet Henry!

School and Civil Rights

" Today I read about Martin Luther King.
The worksheet said because of Dr King's work,
the Civil Rights Act of 1964 gave equal rights to all people.
I am a person.
...
I want these rights.

I want to go to school in my neighborhood.

Why can't I?"

Think about this issue in the larger span of time.
Think about where you want to stand.
Henry is talking about his human rights.
I want to honor his voice.
